Formula and method

Credit utilization = outstanding revolving balance / total revolving limit × 100%. Available amount = max(0, limit − balance).

Assumptions and limitations

Use balances and limits for the same account or the same set of accounts. Reporting dates can differ from statement dates. No credit-score prediction is made.

Worked example

A balance of 1,500 against a limit of 5,000 gives 30% utilization and 3,500 of unused limit.

What the result means

Utilization can exceed 100% when the balance exceeds the stated limit. This ratio alone does not determine a credit score or borrowing decision.

Common questions

Can utilization exceed 100%?

Yes, if the reported balance exceeds the entered credit limit.

Does this predict my credit score?

No. Scoring models use additional information and vary by market.
