Formula and method

Monthly depreciation charge = (adjusted capitalized cost − residual) / months; monthly finance charge = (adjusted capitalized cost + residual) × money factor.

Assumptions and limitations

Use net capitalized cost after any down payment. Tax, acquisition/disposal fees, excess mileage and early termination are excluded. Money factor is not a fee-inclusive APR.

Worked example

For capitalized cost 30,000, residual 18,000, 36 months and money factor 0.002, the modeled monthly payment is about 429.33.

What the result means

Estimate an untaxed lease payment from adjusted capitalized cost, residual and money factor.
