How to use this calculator

  1. Enter starting amount, nominal annual rate (%), number of years, compounds per year.
  2. Choose a display currency, then select Calculate. Results also update after a brief pause while you edit.
  3. Read the result with the assumptions below. Export details or save a second scenario to compare your choices.

Formula and method

A = P × (1 + j / m)^(m × t). Interest or loss = A − P; j is the nominal annual rate expressed as a decimal.

Assumptions and limitations

A constant nominal rate and equal compounding periods. No contributions, fees, tax or withdrawals. Fractional years use the mathematical power convention, which may differ from a deposit contract.

Worked example

A 1,000 deposit at 10% compounded annually for two years becomes 1,210; the gain is 210.

What the result means

Compare rates using the same compounding convention. A negative rate reduces the balance; currency selection changes display labels only.

Common questions

Can I use a negative rate?

Yes, within the input bounds, provided the periodic growth factor stays positive.

Does this include deposits?

This tool isolates lump-sum compounding. Use SIP for regular monthly contributions.
